Chart Window Basics
Welcome to Lesson 3 of the Second Module on MT4 in the PROP365 Academy. This tutorial focuses on the chart window in MetaTrader 4. You’ll learn how to view historical data, place trades, customize chart settings, and organize multiple charts effectively.
Understanding the Chart Window
The chart window is the large panel located at the center of the MT4 platform. This is where you can analyze historical price data of various financial instruments in real time.
This is your primary visual workspace for:
- Tracking price movement
- Applying technical analysis
- Placing trades directly from the chart
Using the Right-Click Menu
Right-clicking anywhere on the chart window opens a menu that allows you to interact with the chart and place trades:
- Trading > New Order: Instantly open a trade on the selected instrument.
- Periodicity: Adjust the chart’s time frame to M1, M5, H1, D1, and more.
- Zoom In/Out: Modify the scale for a closer or broader view of price action.
- Properties: Customize chart color schemes, background, grid lines, and other visual elements.
These tools help tailor the window to your personal trading preferences.
Organizing Multiple Chart Windows
If you're working with several instruments, you can manage multiple charts through the Window tab in the top menu. This allows you to:
- Arrange charts side by side
- Tile them vertically or horizontally
- Switch quickly between different instruments
This function improves efficiency when monitoring several assets at once.
