Getting Started with MT4 Platform
Welcome to Lesson 1 of the Second Module on MT4 in the PROP365 Academy. In this lesson, we’ll walk you through the essentials of getting started with the MT4 platform. Whether you're new to trading or switching brokers, this tutorial will help you understand the login process, server selection, and interface layout of MetaTrader 4.
Logging Into the MT4 Platform
When you launch the MT4 platform for the first time, a login window will automatically appear. Here's what you need to do:
- Use the credentials provided by your MT4 broker. Your account number and login details should be in your registration email.
- Enter your password carefully. Remember that passwords are case sensitive.
- Select the correct server type depending on your account:
- Real server for live trading accounts.
- Demo server for practice or demo accounts.
You’ll find the exact name or number of your server in the same registration email.
Tip: Keep the Save Account Information box checked. This way, the MT4 platform will log you in automatically on your next launch.
Understanding the MT4 Interface
Once you're logged in, the MetaTrader 4 interface displays three main panels:
Market Watch Panel
Located on the top-left, this panel shows live prices and symbols for all trading instruments provided by your MT4 broker.
Chart Window
In the center of the screen, this is where you view price charts. These charts can be customized with:
- Historical price data
- Technical indicators
- Drawing tools
Terminal Window
At the bottom of the platform, the terminal panel allows you to:
- Track active, pending, and closed trades
- Configure alerts
- Monitor trading activity via the Journal tab
